IT'S S(NO)W PROBLEM!

This is a guest post by Matt DSGNS.

Why do the British have such an issue when it comes to dealing with severe weather, namely and most frequently we have an issue when it comes to snow. When we had the snow storms Jan - Mar this year everyone decided that at that moment it’d be a great move to start to panic.

We didn’t even wait for the snow to arrive, we started panicking pre-snow! I mean, com’on, what’s all that about?! The shops were sold out on “essentials” like bread and milk just in case we were snowed in. The councils didn’t think to save the grit for when snow started coming and started gritting the roads when it was raining so the grit got washed away almost immediately.

We have such an issue with snow that not even our planes can cope with it - when it snowed last year we had such an issue a majority of our flights were cancelled. I overheard about another country who had issues with snow - I think it was Finland but don’t quote on me that, they had a massive snow storm and they cancelled one plane. One plane! I mean, you’ve got to worry when the mighty UK cannot cope with a small snowstorm - it wasn’t even too bad compared to other countries!

Then we move onto the trains - the trains seemed to cope quite well this year, there was only one issue that the railways had this year and that was a train - namely the Eurostar, a modern train got stranded halfway to the tunnel - in the middle of Kent. Not to worry though, there was an almost immediate rescue from a passing train - which just happened to be a steam train! A modern train got rescued by a train that got retired over 40 years ago!

It seems snow is going to become more of a frequency and certainly the UK need to sort out their issues with it because if not, every time we have snow the UK is going to come to a standstill. There are so many things we should be bringing in - like chains for wheels!

We can cope with severe weather, we just need to Keep Calm & Carry On!
